This is a very special week for horseback riding vacations at Colorado Trails Ranch. This time is set aside to offer personalized riding instruction for all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner who has never ridden before, or have your own horses and want to improve your riding or horsemanship skills - this is the week for you to visit our dude ranch.

The experienced and accomplished wrangler staff at Colorado Trails Ranch has earmarked this week to show you everything you want to learn. For our novice guests, this week will rank as an adventure vacation. For the more accomplished horsemen, it will be more intense, yet still be easily rated a horseback riding vacation.

Highlights of this special dude ranch week.


  • Riding basics and how to safely move around horses.
  • Properly matching you and your horse.
  • Ensuring you and your saddle are a correct fit.


  • The Jog – done correctly for horse and rider comfort.
  • Loping – done correctly for horse and rider comfort.
  • Private lessons to better your skills in specific areas.

Ground Work

  • How to catch a horse in a pasture safely -for you and the horse.
  • Grooming your horse for riding.
  • Tacking your horse.
  • Lunging & Groundwork: Involves exercising horses on foot to learn how to control them and work with them in specific areas.

Ride Options

  • Morning and Afternoon Rides: These 1.5-2.5 hour rides concentrate on walk, jog, and loping skill practice.
  • Half Day Ride: A 3-4 hour morning ride. You’ll be back in time for lunch.
  • Full Day Ride: This is typically a 6-8 hour ride into the National Forest with riders packing a lunch that is eaten on the trail.
  • Team Penning: Learn how to work with your horse and fellow riders to single out and move cows.
